New Plans For Commodore Hotel Parking Lot Revealed

Good Beer Company, the company that acquired the Commodore Hotel in 2019 for $18.5 million, is planning to transform the hotel’s ground floor parking into a gaming room and increase the number of poker machines from 17 to 30.

Plans (DA 101/21) lodged by Toongame Pty Ltd indicate the $2.7 million makeover would see the hotel’s basement car park be transformed  into a sports bar and gaming area. The proposed works also involves alterations and additions to the upper level, including a larger sports bar, extended terrace, a new pedestrian entry and a new passenger lift.

Whilst some residents welcome the conversion of the existing undercover car park into a gaming room area, some are worried it would only cause more traffic and noise in the area. One resident said finding a carpark in the area is already a nightmare for many residents.

Karen, a resident who owns a property on Blues Pt Rd, objects to the proposal for its impact on their local area, including noise and traffic congestion. She also wrote in her submission that it Is at odds with the McMahons Point Masterplan, which seeks to foster a ‘village atmosphere’ with increased on premises gambling.

“There are already extremely limited Parking spaces on Blues Point Road and locals find it difficult enough to park. This will make it worse,” Karen wrote.

Regarding issues about traffic, a report prepared by Varga Traffic Planning states that the proposed pub expansion on the site will not have any unacceptable traffic or transport impacts.

“Consideration also needs to be given to the proposed loss of the eight existing off-street parking spaces within the undercover parking area. Accordingly, the Hotel requires the maximum provision of 10 off-street parking spaces as a consequence of the proposed development,” the document reads.
