⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our first time to Antica and we had the best meal, perfectly cooked and presented. Excellent and attentive service as well. My rating on atmosphere is not about the restaurant as it was lovely & cosy and we were given a nice window seating, unfortunately we were seated near an extremely loud Asian lady whose grating voice will ensure my husband always remembers his birthday dinner here (and probably for the other diners in earshot)! Otherwise a really fantastic restaurant we will definitely return to!!

This place is a vibe. Great staff, great food. I come here for happy hour after work mainly. You can’t beat $2 oysters and $12 cocktails.
Their dinner is beautifully finessed, I recommend the prawn starters and lobster main. Can’t believe they’ve only been here a year, it feels like they’re firmly part of the food culture of Sydney.

Antica deserves more than 5 stars. This was my third time to enjoy an exceptional fine dining experience. I commented to my group that it gets better and better everytime we visit. The staff are friendly, welcoming and highly trained in providing outstanding service. All were outstandingly well presented in suit coats and some with ties. Highly professional and extremely attentive, without hovering. Antica is a very ‘classy’ establishment in a beautiful heritage building with amazing decor, right opposite the northern exit from Victoria Cross Metro Station in North Sydney. The Glasshouse Bar is a great place for pre dining cocktails and drinks with large, relaxing lounge chairs. The food was amazingly presented, flavoursome and substantial. Obviously there are outstanding chefs in the kitchen. Congratulations to everyone who works at Antica, and to the management for providing such an awesome dining experience. Will certainly be returning.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had a fantastic experience dining at this restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and well-maintained the space was. The environment feels fresh and welcoming, with a stylish but comfortable atmosphere that makes it perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. One of the highlights of the meal was definitely the beer and oyster pairing (such a creative idea! The oysters themselves were incredibly fresh, and the touch of jalapeño added a surprising kick that elevated the flavor beautifully. It’s not something you come across every day, and I really appreciated the boldness of the combination. It worked amazingly well.
You can tell that the staff put a lot of care into the whole experience& they were attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for quality food, great drinks, and a clean, comfortable setting. I’ll definitely be back to try more next time!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had an incredible night at Poetica yesterday. While searching for the perfect restaurant, I struggled to find a place that ticked all the boxes—vibe, food, and location.
Then I came across Poetica, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the meat and other dishes, which were exceptional.
The snapper was superb and the wood fired oven was to die for!
I recommend All my friends to visit and we are more than happy to visit again with our loved ones. Thank you for an awesome experience!

We had several things, grilled fish and meat, everything was tasty but my top dish was grilled cabbage with quite refreshing source with a great touch of pickles.
Service was also very lovely as well!

Well that’s a full flavoured food fusion.. Bahn mi rolls (and wraps) straying from the traditional Vietnamese meats to American-style smokey BBQ and I must say, very impressive Marlie’s. I had to try, now I have to come back to try it again.
If you haven’t popped in, do yourself a flavour and give Marlie’s a go, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed

Do yourself a favour and grab a bite from here. I had the Bad Boy wrap, it was delicious, so full of flavour and great value. They have great combos all ready to go on the menu, but awesome knowing you can modify along the way for that personal touch. Really nice vibe as well, where staff and owners are super nice, cheerful and friendly. Bonus with seating to relaxing out the front if you wish. Highly recommended, I’ll be back!

Sydney Trains to Trial Track Lubrication to Reduce Screeching Noise

Sydney Trains will trial a new track lubrication method to tackle the screeching noise that has frustrated Waverton and Wollstonecraft residents for years

The sharp 200-metre rail curve in the area creates intense friction between train wheels and tracks, generating noise levels that often exceed 80 decibels.

After years of complaints, Sydney Trains has sourced a specialised noise-reducing lubricant through a global search and will begin testing it in the coming months.

Locals Struggle with Constant Noise

Many residents say the noise disrupts their daily lives, starting as early as 4:30 a.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. Wollstonecraft resident Brian McGlynn said the sound makes it impossible to escape, even indoors.

“It’s louder than a vacuum cleaner,” he said.

He explained that weather conditions affect the intensity of the noise, with particularly hot days making it even worse. Even homes with double glazing struggle to keep the high-pitched screeching at bay.

McGlynn said some neighbours had moved away because they couldn’t handle the constant disruption.

Sydney Trains Takes Action

Sydney Trains acknowledged the issue and said it is working on a long-term solution. A spokeswoman explained that tight curves naturally produce noise as steel wheels rub against steel tracks. However, the organisation is committed to reducing the impact on residents.

The new lubrication method was chosen after an extensive global search and tender process to find a more effective solution for reducing noise.

She said that Sydney Trains is working with suppliers to test the concept before launching the trial in the coming months.

The transport body has already tried track grinding, re-railing, track layout adjustments but these efforts have not provided lasting relief.

Regulators and Global Solutions

In 2021, the NSW Environment Protection Authority fined Sydney Trains $15,000, citing poor track maintenance as a key factor in excessive noise pollution.

Other countries, including Austria, Slovenia, and Switzerland, successfully use track lubrication to reduce rail noise. If the trial works, Sydney Trains may roll out the technology to other noisy sections of the network.

This May Be the Oldest House in Waverton and It’s For Sale!

A rustic sandstone house, built around the 1860s and believed to be the oldest house in Waverton, is back on the market after 16 years.

The cottage’s former owners, Natalie and Cameron Gentle, have not been living in the house for some time since expanding their family with two kids and moving to Coffs Harbour. However, they’ve kept the two-bedroom property as an investment but have now decided to let go of the oldest house in Waverton.

Known on the block as the Blacksmith’s Cottage, this house on Euroka Street is dripping with a lot of appeal for its rich history and charm, where the potential new homeowners will be able to use and enjoy some of its original elements: the cabinetry, the gas kitchen, and the brick fireplace.

However, the kitchen also has a modern gas oven and cooktop installed sometime in the 1980s by architect Marcus Lang for the Stocks family, who lived in the house until the 1990s. Mr Lang added more cabinets and the breakfast nook with bench seating.

From the outside, the house might appear small but it’s quite spacious at the back with plenty of room for the children to play or for entertaining guests. The loft-style master bedroom actually connects to the backyard deck.

Mr Gentle said that the house stood next door to the former home of Henry Lawson, the famous Australian writer and poet, who used to visit the Blacksmith’s Cottage.

The house is located in a quiet, laidback harbourside neighbourhood with plenty of parks and foreshore walking areas. It takes about a 10-minute commute to get to the business and commercial hubs in Sydney.
