ShoreShocked 2019 hits off this April at North Sydney

There is no better way to celebrate NSW Youth Week than by attending a FREE youth concert at North Sydney, ShoreShocked 2019!

This year’s ShoreShocked is happening on 13 April 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the St Leonards Park.

Since April of 2009, neighbouring councils such as the North Sydney Council, Ku-Ring-Gai Council, Lane Cove Council, Mosman Council, Hunters Hill Council, City of Ryde, Willoughby City Council, and the Northern Beaches Council,  partner up to celebrate Youth Week by having a music festival that is open for all ages.

ShoreShocked brings together some of Australia’s best musicians to provide an unforgettable music festival experience for all. This year’s lineup include Japanese Wallpaper, Waax, Tyne-James Organ, Kota Banks, Erthlings, Sports, Bra, and ShoreShocked Battle of the Bands 2019 winners: Scoot the Loot and the Last Thursday.

Other Activities

ShoreShocked is an all day event filled with exciting activities that you and your friends can enjoy. Come in early and check out some of the featured market stalls for some amazing finds.

Photographers and videographers are also welcomed to join in at the press pit for ShoreShocked 2019. By being part of the official press team of the event, you get to have an all access pass at the pit and also at the backstage. Limited passes are available. Twilight Food Fair in North Sydney Extended Until Last Friday of March

Since 1990, North Sydney has been holding the Twilight Food Fair every Friday evening during summer. This 2019, however, the event has been extended until the end of March.

From 5:40 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Civic Park on Miller Street becomes an entertainment and recreational centre for families and groups who want to try different international cuisines.

But the Twilight Food Fair is not just a food lover’s paradise. Apart from the gastronomic delights, guests are also treated to live entertainment from local bands and other acts. People sing along, dance and relax to the music; it’s the perfect way to end the work week!

Children, on the other hand, may join interactive games, glitter tattoo party, face painting activities, and story time sessions.

Each weekend has a different line-up and here are the entertainers for the last two weekends:

  • 29th of March Crunching Numbers

North Sydney Art Prize 2019 Now Ongoing in Waverton

Heads up, art afficionados! The highly anticipated major biennial art event, The North Sydney Art Prize, is happening from 2 to 17 March 2019,  10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton.

Get ready to see and explore Sydney’s thriving art industry and connect amongst a great number of creative and diverse artists as The North Sydney Art Prize 2019 exhibits a total of 115 best contemporary works of today.

The exhibit will be held at the iconic Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability  in Waverton for over 16 days this March 2019. This will be the first time that 25 historical chambers of the Coal Loader site will be transformed and used as interactive creative spaces for selected artworks. Other art pieces will be featured in Coal Loader’s mess hall, platform, tunnels, caretaker’s cottage, artist studio, and surrounding parklands.

Everyone is invited to join and witness all featured art pieces may it be on paper, sculpture, new media, sound and site based installations, and more!

2019 Curatorial Theme

All artworks to be showcased for The North Sydney Art Prize 2019 focus on the overarching principles of the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability.

The Coal Loader serves as a community hub for for the extensive environmental and sustainability programs of the council. Having said that, all featured artworks for this event must respond to the curatorial rationale that can address local or global issues relating to the environment and sustainability. These issues can be climate change, mass production, consumer culture, economic and technological sustainability, and more.

Award Categories

Out of the 411 entries for the 2019 North Sydney Art Prize, 115 have made it to the finals. Hence, making these 115 artworks be featured on the Coal Loader site.

Throughout the course of exhibit this March, all artworks displayed will be judged througroughly by a selection panel for the following awards:
